Lois Dimos, Founder and Director,
M.Ed. Stanford University
Mrs. Dimos is an award-winning educator and administrator with over 35 years of experience at all levels from elementary to university. Her most challenging and memorable experience was teaching high school ESL and training ESL teachers in Cameroon (Africa) where she proudly served as a Peace Corps volunteer.
In 2000, Mrs. Dimos founded Palmetto Bay Academy to serve the needs of families who were dissatisfied with traditional public or private schools. She has enjoyed the challenges of developing a unique school based upon the premise that the true purpose of education is to cultivate the intellectual, emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of all students.

Mr. Dimos served our country as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He was an Instructor at Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. After leaving the military, he spent 25 years in the business world where he advanced to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Martin Brower Company in Chicago.
In addition to the expertise he brings from years in the business realm, he has had extensive experience working with teens as a church Youth Group leader. Mr. Dimos has also served in many church leadership positions.
At PBA, Mr. Dimos is responsible for school finances, marketing, and all of the facilities.
Bella Dimos, School Pet and Therapy Dog
Bella attends Palmetto Bay Academy every day and has a very important role providing companionship to the students at the school. She is currently working toward certification as a Therapy Dog and practices her training on a daily basis.
While not doing training exercises, she enjoys visiting with the students in the classroom , playing with squeaky toys, learning how to catch a ball and jogging with Mr. Dimos.
Faculty
Palmetto Bay faculty members are carefully selected for their intellect, personality, education, experience and personal values. To teach at PBA, all teachers must have a minimum of a B.A. degree from an accredited university, certification in their subject area and 2 years of relevant teaching or tutoring experience.
Upon being hired, a thorough background check is conducted including a fingerprint report from the FBI as required by Florida Law. In addition, all teachers must agree to a drug free lifestyle and are randomly tested for illegal drug use.
On July 1, 2008 the Florida Legislature enacted Bill 1712 entitled the "Ethics in Education Act. " Our faculty members comply with all statutes of the Ethics in Education Act governing private schools.
In addition, all employees of Palmetto Bay Academy have an obligation and legal responsibility to report misconduct by instructional personnel and school administrators which affects the health, safety or welfare of a student. Failure to report misconduct may result in penalties up to termination of employment and revocation of an educator's certificate.
The following are some examples of misconduct that must be reported:
• Obscene language
• Drug and alcohol use
• Disparaging comments
• Prejudice or bigotry
• Sexual innuendo
• Cheating
• Testing violations
• Physical aggression
• Accepting or Offering favors
